from Religious Concept to Scientific Understanding
and Practical Applications
I saw another mighty angel coming down out of heaven. He was wrapped in a cloud and had rainbow round his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like pillars of fire.
John in Revelation 10:1
In many religions, there has been some common description about the mysterious aura around holy persons ( see Fig. 1 ).
However, in the 18, 19 and 20 centuries, as the fast development and the success of modern science, the knowledge of modern science became the unique criterion of truth. According to this criterion, any phenomenon, which is unable to be proved by scientific methods, could be true. It might be a lie, an illusion, or a piece of superstition.
Unfortunately, in the 18 and 19 centuries, even in the first 70 years of the 20 century, the techniques, which ware based on the knowledge of modern science at that time, were not sensitive enough to detect the auras, which ancient people had described many times. In such a case, the existence of aura became a lie, an illusion, or at most a piece of superstition.
Fortunately, however, as the further development of modern science, the Scottish theoretical physicist James Clerk Maxwell (1831– 1879) prodicted the existence of electromagnetic waves, the wave in the invisible world, which opened a completely new door for sciensts know that there is a big world beyond the ability of our sense organs.
Then, an Italian inventor, Guglielmo Marconi (1874 – 1937) invented the first wireless radio transmitters, worked by the invisible electromagnetic waves, which the ancient people might call ghost waves. For this important invantion, Marconi was award of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1909.
Since then, the scientific research into the invisible electromagnetic waves, or the ghost-like waves, developed very fast. And the application of techniques through the invisible and ghost-like electromagnetic waves also developed very fast. For instence, the development of radar helped Britain a lot in the Second World War. And if there were no electromagnetic waves, it would be impossible for America to develop the Star Wars Program to contain the Soviet Union.
Today, the application of ghost-like electromagnetic waves are even much more. If there were no the ghost-like electromagnetic waves, it would be impossible to have mobile telephone, without which, it would very hard for modern young people to survive today.
However, if you image that when one of the grandfathers of these young people, who died thirty years ago, came back again to our world and saw the his grandson talking with some invisible person in the street. The old man would think that the poor boy was haunted by some ghost and speaking with this invisible ghost.
Actually, after Maxwell and Marconi, scientists have made a big progress in the understanding of the world of electromagnetic waves ( see Fig. 2 ).
Fig. 2 shows that electromagnetic waves have a broad spectrum. And what we are able to see is only a very narrow section of this spectrum. Beyond this small section, we are blind.
Perhaps, many of us have heard that some persons have the inborn problem of color-blindness. They are unable to differentiate colors. What they can see of the world is only black and white like the black-white movies. In term of physics, the spectrum of electromagnetic waves they can recieve is more narrow than we can. Fortunately, we are stronger than they are, and able to understand them with compassion.
Now, let's consider the opposite situation. If there is a person, whose spectrum of electromagnetic waves is even more wider than we have. For instance, he is able to see the infrared rays from the heating, even from our bodies. It means that he is able to see the aura around the heating, and also around us, even though we are not holy persons.
Then, what we would think of him? We might think that this guy are cheating us, at least he has some illusion.
Fortunately, as the fast development of the scientific research and detection techniques, the existance of the mysterious aura becomes more and more easy to prove and to understand. What is more, step by step, scientists found that there is not only the aura around us, even though we are not holy, but also around all other living creatures.
It is also understandable that if we can see the light around an electric bulb, there must be some light sources inside the bulb. It is the same inside our bodies. Here, we call these light sources same inside our bodies “internal aura”.
What is more, scientists further found that the invisible internal aura has structure, which scientists call “dissipative structure”, which could only exist in an open system and with constant support of energy.
This “dissipative structure” is composed mainly of electromagnetic standing waves to form a relatively stable “interference pattern”. Interestingly enough, this “interference pattern” has some overlaps with the mysterious chakra system in the ancient Indian Medicine and the acupunture system in the ancient Chinese Medicine.
The “internal aura” has not only structure, but is also a kind of music – the music made of electromagnetic waves, instead of acoustic waves. And the scientific evaluation of the beauty of electromagnetic music, or more precisely, of the beauty of the electromagnetic symphonies, is another important progress of modern science, particularly the progress of modern mathematics and physics.
